Cape Girardeau, Mo. (November 18, 2003)- The Otahkians return home for their season home opener as they will host Southern Illinois this Friday night, Nov. 21, at 6:00 p.m. This marks the 27th time the two teams have met, as SIU leads the series with a 23-3 record over Southeast.

Scouting Southeast... Southeast (0-1) is coming off a heart-breaking loss in the Women's Pre-season NIT against No. 19 Utah. The squad played a tough, competitive game as the lead changed nine times throughout the game, but Southeast fell behind down the stretch during the last minutes of the game.

Southeast shot a perfect 100 percent from the free throw line as they made 6 of 6, but the squad didn't get many chances from the line. Southeast out fouled Utah 21 to 8 on the game giving Utah 16 free shots from the line. The speedy squad got beat on the boards as Utah out rebounded Southeast 33 to 25, recording 25 points on second chance shots.

Leading the offensive attack for the Otahkians was freshman point guard Jessica Aebi as she lit up for two three-pointers and five field goals, scoring twelve points. Senior Kenja White followed directly behind with eleven points. The rest of the scoring was spread around as four Otahkians, forward Carina Souza, senior Yashika Sidbury, senior Sarah Costello, and junior Chandra Brown, all drained eight points. Junior Brandi Russia led the team in assists as she recorded five.

Scouting Southern Illinois... The Salukis are coming off two exhibition wins. They came from behind to down St. Louis Goldstar 64-62 and then went on to post a 93-78 win over NWBL. Senior Tiffany Crutcher is on fire for the Saluki's as she led the scoring in both games, scoring 14 points against Goldstar and then racking up 27 against NWBL. She dominated the first 20 minutes in against NWBL as she scored 16 of the 20 points, shooting a perfect 8-of-8. She also brought down 13 boards in that game to record the double-double.

The squad has been predicted to finish last in the Missouri Valley Conference in this year's MVC Preseason Poll. This marks the third straight year that SIU has been tabbed to finish last in preseason polls. The squad finished last season with a conference record of 3-15, finishing last in the MVC.

Up Next... Southeast will hit the road for a three game road series over the Thanksgiving holiday. First up Southeast will head to Norman, Okla. to take on No. 21 ranked Oklahoma. The contest is scheduled for Nov. 24, as tip-off will be at 7:00 p.m. From there the squad will travel to Corpus Christi, Tx. for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Classic. The Otahkians will square off against Bowling Green State on Friday, November 28, at 7:00 p.m. If Southeast wins, the squad will face the winner of the Corpus Christi/Prairie View game for the championship, or if they lose, they will face the loser of that contest.
