Women's Basketball Adds Another JUCO Recruit

Nov. 19, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - Women's basketball rounds out the weeklong early signing period by signing another JUCO transfer, Katrisha Dunn.

Sophomore Katrisha "Red" Dunn is a 5-5, sophomore point guard at Eastern Oklahoma Community College. Her hometown is Dallas, Tex. where she played at Brian Adams high school. Dunn is expected to make a huge impact this year at Eastern Oklahoma, as she missed the second half of last season due to an injury.

Last season she averaged 4.1 assists, 4.4 steals, 8.7 points, and 2.6 rebounds per game. She was a major force last season before getting injured, as she led the team to an early 15-2 record. The team suffered without her lead as they fell to 22-8 on the season.

"Dunn is a point guard who can shoot," head coach B.J. Smith said. "She very much fits our style of play."

Coach Smith is excited about her joining the squad, as she will be able to come in right away and make an impact.

"She's a very athletic point guard," remarked Smith. "She should be able to come in and do things similar to what Sarah Costello has done for us."

Coach Smith also signed Tatiana Concieicoa, a 6-2 sophomore forward at Western Nebraska Community College last week.

"These are two very good signings for us," said Smith, who will probably sign five more players in the spring.

Smith's squad opens at home this Friday, November 21, as they host rival Southern Illinois. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Show Me Center.
