Missy Whitney Claims OVC Newcomer of the Week Award

Nov. 27, 2006

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State junior Missy Whitney (Charleston, Mo./Three Rivers CC) was honored by the Ohio Valley Conference today as she captured the conference's Newcomer of the Week award. This is the first honor for Whitney, who became the first Redhawk to capture the honor this season.

The 6-2 forward/center led Southeast to a 101-78 win over Harris-Stowe on Nov. 21 after producing a career-best 24 points, which included going a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Whitney added eight rebounds and three assists against the Hornets. She currently leads the Redhawks with a 15.3 point per game average and ranks second in rebounds at 9.0 per game.

Southeast (2-2) opens a three-game road swing in Waco, Texas against No. 13 Baylor on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
