Sidbury Named OVC Newcomer of the Week

Brentwood, Tenn. (December 3, 2002) - Southeast Missouri State University junior guard Yashika Sidbury was named the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for the week of December 3 as announced by the league office in Brentwood today.

Sidbury is the second Otahkian in a row to garner this award from the conference as junior forward Carina Souza won the honor last week.

Sidbury averaged 18.3 points and 6.7 rebounds last week and was also named to the Wisconsin - Green Bay/Oneida Bingo and Casino Holiday Tournament's All-Tournament Team. In the tournament finale, she had 36 points and 14 rebounds as she was 15-15 from the free-throw line. She helped the Otahks to a dramatic double overtime victory in that game.

She shot 59 percent from the field in the game and the free-throw mark is a new OVC record.

Sidbury and the Otahkians will be in action Thursday night as they play host to the Lady Bison of Lipscomb University. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m. at the Show Me Center. After the game, Southeast will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Samford University on Saturday at 2 p.m.
