Season Outlook: Look for Ashley to enhance her vault and improve on an already magnificent career at Southeast.

2003: As a junior, Ashley won the conference all around crown as broke the school record in the all around.

2002: Ashley has recovered 100% from an ankle inujury suffered over the summer and will put together a new combo on the bars this season. The team will consistently rely on her contributions on all four events.

2001: Ashley came to Southeast with very impressive skills and made immediate contributions to the team. She finished first nine times during the regular season, including four each in vault and as an All-Arounder and one in floor exercise. She also recored the fifth highest All-Around score of

Personal: Born 7-22-82 ... daughter of Mike and Beth Godwin ... majoring in Sports Medicine ... attended Cape Coral High School ... won Optimist Student of Year award and US Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award ... also competed in diving and was a cheerleader at Cape Coral ... All-Conference diving champion in 1998 and 1999 ... District champion in 1998 ... 23rd in state in 1998 and 1999 ... also recruited by Arizona, Auburn, West Virginia and Centenary ... favorite athlete is Mia Hamm.

Q & A With Ashley Godwin

At what age did you start gymnastics?   2 years old
How did you become involved in gymnastics?   I was uncoordinated. I couldn’t walk and chew gum at the same time.
What is your favorite event? Why?   Floor. It’s a crowd-getter, and you get to play to the crowd.
What has been your most memorable moment gymnastics moment at Southeast?   MIC last year. (Ashley broke the beam and all around records.)

If I had to be one animal, it would be… a monkey.
Number of times I have landed on my head… can’t count on both hands…too many to remember.
One thing I can’t live without is… Cherry Coke.
Longest time I’ve spent in a chalk tray is… 15 minutes.
10 years from now I see myself… doing physical therapy at a recognized establishment.
Something you may not know about me is… I write left-handed, but do gymnastics righty.
I do gymnastics because… in high school it was time-consuming. Now, I’ve become so accustomed to it. It also helps me manage time.
