Southeast Gymnastics Capture Third in Cardinal Classic
Muncie, Ind. (January 24,2002)- Behind the All-Around Champion, Ashley Godwin, the Southeast Misssouri women's gymnastics squad captured third place out of seven schools Friday in Muncie, Ind. The Otahkians move their record to 5-3 on the season. Southeast scored 192.425 trailing behind first place Central Michigan with a score of 193.200, and second place Ball State with a score of 192.975. Northern Illinois was fourth with a 192.300, Winona State was fifth with a 185.450, Wisconsin-Oshkosh was sixth with a 180.950 and Wisconsin-Stout was seventh with a 174.900. Southeast and Northern Illinois tied for first on the floor with a score of 48.950. Godwin lived up to her high expectations for herself with a score of 9.900. Senior Amy Cole and sophomore Alexis Traylor were in a five-way tie for third with a score of 9.825. Godwin won the all-around with an impressive score of 39.025. First year Tara Boldt is starting the season strong with an all-around score of 38.375 while Cole barely trails with a 38.250. Notable scores included junior Jacklyn Doebbler with a 9.750 on beam followed by a 9.650 by first year Deanna Ogg. Southeast will compete next on Saturday, February 1 at Houck Field House at 1:00 p.m. in the Otahkian Invitational against Illinois-Chicago. |
