Otahkians Fall to Illinois-Chicago

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (February 1, 2003)- The Southeast Missouri State Otahkian gymnastics squad (5-4) gave a gallant effort, but fell to the University of Illinois-Chicago 192.450-193.375. The Flames of UIC came to Southeast ranked 19th in the nation with a total season average of 195.075.

First year Tara Boldt led the Ohtakians with a third place in the all-around scoring a 38.375. Junior Jaclyn Doebbler took first place in the floor competition with a score of 9.850 and junior Ashley Godwin took second after scoring a 9.800 after a 0.1 deduction due to stepping out of bounds. Other Southeast notables include first year Deanna Ogg with a third place in the bars (9.825) and sophomore Alexis Traylor with a score of 9.750 on the floor competition after a 0.1 deduction due to an out of bounds violation.

The UIC Flames were led by sophomore Jennifer O'Neil (38.475) and sophomore Alyson Cacciatore (38.425) finishing first and second respectively in the all-around. O'Neil placed in a four way tie for first on the vault (9.750), a second place on the floor (9.825) and a third place on the bars (9.825). Sophomore Jackie Jaworowicz only competed in two events winning the beam (9.825) and took second on the floor (9.825).

The Southeast Otahkians host the University of Illinois next Saturday. The meet is set for 1 p.m. at Houck.
