Otahkian Gymnastics Topped at Illinois-Chicago

Feb. 7, 2004

CHICAGO - The Southeast Missouri State women's gymnastics team lost 191.700 - 194.325 Saturday night to the University of Illinois-Chicago. It is only the second loss of the season for Southeast, as their record drops to 5-2.

Southeast won only the balance beam event with a score of 48.400. Senior Ashley Godwin tied for first in that event with a 9.800 score.

Junior Katie Bloom performed well on bars, as she won the event with a 9.800. That score matches her career-high in the bars event.

In the all-around, Godwin finished second and sophomore Tara Boldt finished in third with scores of 38.950 and 38.850, respectively. Bloom finished with a 38.250.

Southeast has yet to top UIC since 2001. Last season the Flames got past Southeast in both head-to-head competition, as well as at the Midwest Independent Championships, which UI-Chicago won.

Southeast will next head to Illinois State for a mid-week matchup with the Redbirds. The Otahks will compete at 7 p.m. Wednesday night. The next home meet for Southeast will be Saturday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. at Houck Field House.
