CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Saturday, February 13, 2010) – The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks gymnastics team (7-0, 4-0 MIC) continued their success with another impressive win against the Cougars of Brigham Young University. The Redhawks put on an incredible show in front of home fans at Houck Field House beating the Cougars, 194.650-193.250.

Senior Rikara Turner (Hastings, Minn./Twin City Twisters) won her 16th career all-around title with a season-high score, 38.850 to highlight the meet that saw the Redhawks claim three of the four individual titles.

The Redhawks started the competition on vault and accumulated a 48.625. The top vaulter was freshman Jordan Salsberg (Gulf Port, Miss./Laniers Gymnastics) who scored a season-high 9.825 and won first place honors. Junior Brianna Gaddie (East Grand Forks, Minn./Red River Valley) was awarded second place accolades with a 9.775.

The Redhawks moved on the uneven bars and scored a remarkable season-high, 49.025. This score ranks second on the school’s all-time charts for bar score. The Redhawks swept the top three honors. Salsberg and junior Christina Sundgren (Richland, Wash./Mid-Columbia Gymnastics) both were awarded first place honors with identical scores, 9.850. This score was a career-high for Salsberg, and a season-high for Sundgren. Senior Kelley Krengiel (Lemont, Ill./Phenom Gymnastics) tied her career-high score, 9.800 and was awarded second place accolades. Sophomore Emily Mann (Lincoln, Neb./Solid Rock Gymnastics) completed the clean sweep with a 9.775 and placed third.

The Redhawks headed to beam for their third event and turned in a season-high score, 48.150. Freshman Taylor Westrick (Waterford, Wisc./Salto Gymnastics) was the lead scorer for the Redhawks. She scored 9.750, which tied her career-best and won third place honors following two gymnasts from BYU. Turner turned in a 9.650, which was the Redhawks next best score of the day.

The Redhawks finished strongly on the floor scoring an impressive season-high, 48.850. Gaddie won the event with a season-high score of 9.875. Turner came in third place with a 9.775.

The Redhawks will travel to Colorado for two meets. The first meet will be on Friday February 19th against Denver at 8:00 p.m. (C.T.), followed by a meeting with the Air Force Academy on Saturday February 20th at 7:00 p.m. (C.T.) in Colorado Springs.

The Redhawks will then return home for their last four meets of the season starting on February 28, 2010. They will begin the four-meet stretch against Midwest Independent Conference rival Illinois State at 2:00 p.m. (C.T.) at Houck Field House.
