Redhawks Lose To BYU

Feb. 19, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. - (February 17, 2007) Redhawks gymnastics has jumped into the 31st spot nationally, despite falling to 19th ranked Brigham Young University, 193.325-190.6, at Houck Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The Redhawks were able to move up in the rankings because the team has completed six meets and now use the Regional Qualifying Score for their national ranking. Southeast's RQS is currently 191.8, which is top in the Midwest Independent Conference.

Southeast struggled throughout the meet as they were without team-leader Sandra Blake (Tri-Cities, Wash./Mid Columbia), who is listed as questionable due to an injury sustained during practice on Friday afternoon.

The only event where Southeast matched their normal performance was on beams where they scored 48.2.

A bright spot for the Redhawks was freshman Bryanna Wong (Parkville, Mo./Edge Gymnastics) who placed second on the all-around with 37.775. This score marked the first time that Wong has led the Redhawks in that event.

The Redhawks will keep fighting for a spot in the NCAA Regionals in their next meet which will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 7:00 p.m. in Houck Fieldhouse against conference foe Texas Woman's University.
