Redhawks Fall to Golden Flashes on the Road

KENT, Ohio. - (Sunday, February 20, 2005) The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team dropped their dual meet, 195.300-193.025 against 33rd-ranked Kent State in a Sunday matinee at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. The loss concludes the Redhawks three-dual road trip.

The Redhawks (3-5, 2-2 MIC) scored a season-high 48.975 on the floor exercises, but that was not enough as the Golden Flashes (6-2, 4-1 MAC) won all four events enroute to their season-high score of 195.300.

Senior Katie Bloom (Snellville, Ga./ Gwinnett Gymnastics Center) finished tied for second on the vault with a score of 9.725 which tied her season-high. Fellow senior Amanda Grimes (Lone Jack, Mo./ GAGE Gymnastics) finished fourth with a 9.650. Freshmen Allison Ezell (Kansas City, Kan./ Alpha Omega) and Danyelle Aber (Gurnee, Ill./ Ultimate Gymnastics) each set career-highs with a scores of 9.625 and 9.575 respectively.
 

 

Lexie Hein (Appleton, Wis./ LaFleur's Gymnastics) was the top Redhawks finisher on the bars with a season-high 9.725 to finish tied for third place. Tara Boldt (Lakeville, Minn./ T.A.G.S) finished fourth tying a season-high with a score of 9.700. Ezell set another career-high with a score of 9.675. Jennifer Kaye (Brookfield, Wis./ Salto Gymnastics) also set a career-high tying Ezell with a score of 9.675.

On the beam, Hein again was the top finisher with a fourth place finish with a score of 9.700. Senior Alexis Traylor (St. Charles, Mo./ All American) tied a season-high with a 9.675.

Despite three Redhawks scoring 9.825 on the floor and scoring a season-high 48.975, the Redhawks had to settle for a fourth place finish. Grimes, Boldt and Traylor all tied for fourth place with their scores of 9.825. For Grimes, her score set a season-high. Hein tied a career-high with a score of 9.725. Ezell set a new career-high in her third event with a score of 9.625.

Hein finished second in the all-around with a score of 38.775 followed by Boldt (38.300), Ezell (38.075) and Bloom (37.900).

The Redhawks return home this weekend, Saturday, February 26 when they host Wisconsin-LaCrosse at the Houck Field House at 1:00 p.m.
