Cape Girardeau, Mo. (March 1, 2002) - The Southeast Missouri State Gymnastics team came away with a split Friday night as they defeated Illinois State, but fell to a tough Ball State squad. Southeast finished with 192.850 points as Ball State had 194.375 and Illinois State had 190.875.

Although the Otahks didn?t win any of the individual events, they had another consistent meet finishing second and scoring over 190 again. They opened up on the vault with a 48.350 and kept it up as they scored a 48.200, 47.900 and 48.400 on the bars, beam, and floor, respectively.

Sophomore Ashley Godwin failed to take home an individual title, but managed to have a strong meet altogether and be crowned the all-around champ. Godwin scored a 39.025, her second-highest total this season. She finished second on the floor and beam with scores of 9.800 and 9.725, respectively, while finishing third on the vault with a score of 9.750.

Senior Stephanie Furman tied Godwin on the beam, while junior Amy Cole finished third in the all-around with a score of 38.550, a personal best for her this season.

BSU took home all four individual titles with Renee Planck taking the bars and the beam behind scores of 9.750, and 9.825, respectively, while Jenny Gannt and Quiana Williams stole the floor and vault with identical 9.825 scores each.

Southeast will next be in action as they travel to Champaign, Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois in a dual. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
