Redhawks Defeat Ladies

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks (8-3, 7-0 MIC) remain undefeated in Midwest Independent Conference play after defeating the Centenary College Ladies 193.775-191.00.

Southeast began the evening with a 48.400. Sophomore's Christina Sundgren (Richland, Wash./Mid-Columbia Gymnastics) and Lauren Dinan (Doniphan, Neb./Nebraska Twisters Gymnastics) shared the individual title as they scored 9.725. Kelley Krengiel (Lemont, Ill./Lemont H.S.), Erica Moore (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Let It Shine Gymnastics) and last week's Gymnast of the Week Sandra Blake (Tri-City, Wash./Mid-Columbia Gymnastics) all finished in a five-way tie for third-place with a 9.650.

On the vault, the Redhawks tallied 48.700, their best score of the evening. Sophomore Brianna Gaddie (East Grand Forks, Minn./Red River Valley Gymnastics) turned in a second-place 9.750 followed by junior Rikara Turner's (Hastings, Minn./Twin City Twisters) third-place 9.750. Teammates Amber Garlotte (Lee's Summit, Mo./Eagle Gymnastics) and Blake tied with a fourth-place 9.725.

The Redhawks scored a 48.675 on the floor exercise led by Blake's first-place 9.850. Gaddie was impressive once again on the floor as she scored a second-place 9.825.

Southeast ended the evening with a 48.000 on the balance beam. Gaddie and freshman Christa Soekamto (Grapevine, Tex./Top Flight Gymnastics) tied for second by scoring 9.650. The duo was followed by Blake and Turner who tied for fourth with 9.600.

In the all-around competition, Blake captured the crown with a 38.825 and Turner finished second with 38.625.

"We did a lot of good things tonight," head coach Farden said. "The ladies performed well and we have improved our RQS."

The Redhawks now return home for their last home-meet of the season. Southeast will host Air Force in Houck Field House on Saturday, March 14 at 7p.m for Senior Night.
