Redhawks Finish 4th at Arizona Quad Meet

Tucson, Az. - (Friday, March 10, 2006) The Redhawks gymnastics team finished fourth at a quadrangular meet hosted by No. 15 Arizona on Friday evening at the McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona. The Redhawks recorded a score of 190.500 trailing Arizona's score of 194.725, No. 19 Denver (194.300) and Cal-State Fullerton (193.000). The Redhawks score was their third best road score of the season helping the Redhawks case for a NCAA Regional berth.

The Redhawks (8-8, 5-2 MIC) started the meet strong as they scored 48.500 on the vault, the team's second best vault score of the season. Freshman Sandra Blake (Tri-Cities, Wash./Mid-Columbia) turned in the Redhawks best individual performance of the night as she finished second on the vault with a career-best 9.825. Brystol Powelski (Franklin, Wis./ Salto Gymnastics) finished tied for eighth with a score of 9.725. Freshmen Starlyn Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla./First City) and Chelsea Unold (Plymouth, Minn./Twin City Twisters) had strong routines, finishing with identical scores of 9.675.

Blake led the Redhawks on the bars as she finished tied for fourth with a score of 9.700 as the team scored 47.550. Powleski was the next best Redhawk finisher with a score of 9.575.

Powelski was the Redhawks top individual finisher on the beam finishing with a score of 9.525. Freshman Maureen Grimaldi (Kansas City, Mo./Eagles) finished behind her with a score of 9.500.

On the floor the Redhawks finished with their second-best score of the season with a 48.100. Blake was the top finisher with a score of 9.700 for 12th place. Grimaldi finished with a score of 9.625 followed by Alison Ezell (Kansas City, Kan./ Alpha Omega) and Powelski with scores of 9.600.

Blake was the Redhawks top all-arounder with a score of 38.650, good enough for fourth place. Powelski posted her third-straight solid all-around score with a 38.425.

The Redhawks conclude the 2006 regular season as they head to Columbia, Missouri to face No. 9 Mizzou at the Hearnes Center on Friday, March 17.
