Otahkians Take Fourth Against Stiff Competition

Ypsilanti, Mich. - The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team posted a team score of 194.150 as the Otahkians finished fourth out of four teams Saturday in Ypsilanti, Mich. Michigan State University, currently ranked No. 24 nationally, won the quadrangular meet with a score of 195.700, and No. 33 Ohio State finished second with a 195.275 team score.

Katie Bloom scored the top score on vault for Southeast, with a 9.775. Ashley Godwin scored a 9.675 while sophomore Tara Boldt and freshman Brystol Powelski each scored a 9.650.
 

 

On Bars, it was Godwin who led the way for Southeast. She posted a 9.850 which placed her second overall in the event. Freshmen Powelski and Natalie Watts each scored strong bar scores posting 9.775 for their efforts.

On beam, the squad combined to score 48.675. Boldt was tops for Southeast with a 9.850 score. Junior Alexis Traylor earned a 9.750 and Watts and Bloom each scored a 9.700. For Watts it was a new personal best.

On floor, Godwin again led the way with an outstanding 9.850 routine. Amanda Grimes and Alexis Traylor each scored 9.825 and senior Jacklyn Doebbler and junior Crystal Eberhardt each scored a 9.700.

Southeast will next compete at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships next Saturday. The Otahks are currently ranked tops in the conference.
