Southeast Gymnastics Set the Bar High

NORMAL, Ill. - The Southeast Missouri State Gymnastics squad (6-10) took a victory over Illinois State today, 194.800-194.125. The Otahkians set many team highs as well as personal highs at the meet that began at 6:00 p.m. at Horton Field House.

Southeast took first on the vault with a team score of 48.375 and first on bars with a team score of 49.000. A 48.200 on beam and 49.225 on floor helped assist the Otahkians to their victory. The 49.000 bars score is the second highest team bars score in Southeast history and the 49.225 on floor is the fourth highest team floor score in Southeast history. The total team score of 194.200 is the fifth highest team score in Otahkian history.

Junior Ashley Godwin tied with Redbird Denise Houda for first in the all-around with a 39.200 (7th best for Otahk history). Senior Amy Cole trailed close behind with a 39.000. Godwin took first in the vault with a score of 9.775, tied for first with freshman Deanna Ogg on bars with a score of 9.850 (7th best in Otahk history), and first on the floor with a score of 9.925 (a new personal best for Godwin as well as tied for 5th best in Otahk history).

Other high marks went to sophomore Michelle Albury with a career high on bars with a score of 9.800, freshman Amanda Grimes with a career high on floor with a score of 9.800, and sophomore Alexis Traylor with a career high on floor with a score of 9.875.

The Otahkians will be at home for the last home meet for the season. The Otahkians will host Winona State at 7 p.m. at Houck Fieldhouse on March 21.
