Redhawks Score a 192.575 in Regular Season Finale at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo. (Friday, March 17, 2006) The Redhawks gymnastics team ended the 2006 regular season in impressive fashion in a non-conference dual meet against 13th-ranked Missouri Friday evening at the Hearnes Center. The Redhawks fell to the Tigers 195.250-192.575 but the Redhawks score represented the team's second-best road score and third-best overall score of the year.

The Redhawks (8-9, 5-2 MIC) turned in their best balance beam performance of the season as they scored 48.600 on the apperatus. Freshman Maureen Grimaldi (Kansas City, Mo./Eagles) led the Redhawks with a second place finish. She scored a career-high 9.875 which is also a team best this season. Junior Brystol Powelski (Franklin, Wis./ Salto Gymnastics) finished sixth with a season-high 9.725. Starlyn Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla./First City) and Sandra Blake (Tri-Cities, Wash./Mid-Columbia) finished tied for seventh with identical scores of 9.700.

The Redhawks started off on the bars where they scored 48.400. Grimaldi once again led the way with a score of 9.775 for fourth place. Blake finished tied for sixth with a score of 9.750.

On the vault Schwartz was the top Redhawk finisher with a score of 9.700 to finish fourth. Blake (9.600) finished sixth followed by Danyelle Aber (Gurnee, Ill./ Ultimate Gymnastics) with a seventh place finish.

Blake was the top floor performer for the Redhawks tying for third place with a score of 9.750. Alison Ezell (Kansas City, Kan./ Alpha Omega) was sixth with a score of 9.625 followed by Grimaldi with a score of 9.525.

Blake finished second in the all-around with a score of 38.800. Powelski finished third with a combined score of 38.275 followed closely by Aber with a score of 38.250.

Next for the Redhawks is the Midwest Independent Conference Championships which the Redhawks will host on Saturday, March 25 in Houck Field House. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m.
