Southeast Gymnastics Give Home a Great Last Show

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Gymnastics squad (7-10) were victorious over Winona State University at the last 2003 gymnastics home meet. The Otahkians won 193.375-180.375. Senior Amy Cole shined in the competition as well as in her farewell given by her teammates after the meet. Cole took first on bars with a 9.825, first on floor with a 9.850, second on vault with a 9.700, and second in the all-around with a score of 38.575. After the meet the Otahkians gave a touching goodbye with lots of tears. It is obvious that she will be missed. Other notable performances were by junior Ashley Godwin taking first in the all-around with a score of 39.050, first on the vault with a score of 9.750, first on the beam with a score of 9.825, and tied with sophomore Katie Bloom for second on bars with a score of 9.725. Bloom and first year Amanda Grimes tied for third place on vault with a 9.650. Sophomore Alexis Traylor took second on the floor with a score of 9.825 while junior Jacklyn Doebbler trailed behind with a 9.775 to take third. Winona State is a Division II team that gave a remarkable effort. Leah Kindem tied for fourth on beam with a score of 9.675 followed by Amy Bickler tallying a score of 9.575. The Otahkians will now go to the Midwest Independent Championships on March 29 at Centenary College in Shreveport, La. |
