Redhawks finish 3rd in the MIC Championships scoring a 192.300

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Saturday March 25, 2006)  The Redhawks finished in third place in a very close MIC Championship meet.  The Southeast hosted event featured all of the MIC teams including, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Centenary, and Texas Women's University.  The winning score for TWU was 193.200, Illinois-Chicago took second with 192.375.

 

The Redhawks turned in a score of 47.275 which was third best overall.  Maureen Grimaldi turned in Southeast's best performance with a score of 9.750 which was good enough for 3rd place.  Alison Ezell took 10th with a score of 9.525.  Also competing were Starlyn Schwartz (9.500), Sandra Blake (8.800), Brystol Powelski (9.350), and Kelsey Stauffer (9.150).

 

On the bars Southeast had a score of 47.975.  Grimaldi had another strong performance on Bars with a score of 9.750 which got her 2nd place.  Sandra Blake scored a solid 9.700 taking 5th place and Brystol Powelski took 10th with a score of 9.575.  Also participating were Danyelle Aber (7.950), Alison Ezell (9.550), and Starlyn Schwartz (9.400).

 

A solid vault score of 48.500 helped Southeast place in the meet.  Sandra Blake finished third with a score of 9.800.  Brystol Powelski had a score of 9.725 and finished 8th.  Starlyn Schwartz finished 10th with a score of 9.675.  Also participating were Danyelle Aber (9.675) and Allison Ezell (9.625).

 

Southeast strongest performance was in the Floor where they scored a 48.550.  Scores were turned in by Chelsea Unold (9.750), Maureen Grimaldi (9.675), Brystol Powelski (9.625), Alison Ezell (9.675), Sandra Blake (9.700), and Alex King (9.750).

 

Alison Ezell and Brystol Powelski finished third and fourth respectively.

 

Season awards were also handed out after the competition.  Sandra Blake topped off here excellent season by winning Gymnast of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.  Southeast coach Tom Farden won Coach of the Year. While Steve Averginos, Illinois State University, won Assistant Coach of the year.
