Southeast Gymnastics is edged by Illinois State
Jan. 19, 2003 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (January 19, 2003) - Despite winning three of four events the Southeast gymnastics squad still fell to the Redbirds of Illinois State, 192.850 - 192.575. Southeast won the vault, bars, and floor, but Illinois State, however, had an excellent routine on beam that sealed their victory. Southeast junior Ashley Godwin won both the bars and floor. Godwin scored a 9.800 on bars followed by 9.850 on floor. Illinois State's gymnasts Denise Houda and Heather Mohler tied with a score of 9.725 on vault along with Lisa Klein scoring a 9.950 on the beam. Houda captured the all-around with a score of 38.950. Senior Amy Cole came away with second place scoring 38.825 followed by Godwin scoring 38.800. Freshman Tara Boldt had an impressive beam score of 9.750 coming in second. Southeast ruled the floor exercise with Godwin scoring 9.900, sophomore Alexis Traylor scoring a 9.850, and Cole with a 9.800. Southeast will be on the road to Muncie, Ind. to compete against Ball State January 24 at 7 p.m. The Otahkians will be returning home to compete against University of Illinois - Chicago February 1 at 1 p.m. at Houck Field House. |
