Redhawks Gymnastics Look to Keep Streaks Alive
Jan. 28, 2005 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Friday, January 28, 2005) The Redhawks gymnastics team are looking to extend two streaks tomorrow when they host highly regarded University of Illinois-Chicago in a conference dual meet inside Houck Field House at 1:00 p.m. Southeast has won five-straight duals dating back to last season and currently hold an eight-dual home winning streak alive as well. Southeast (2-0) defeated conference foe Centenary last weekend in their debut as the Redhawks. In the 190.450-189.050 victory, junior Tara Boldt (Lakeville, Minn./ T.A.G.S) took home the All-around title with help from her first-place finish on the bars and second on the beam. Senior Katie Bloom (Snellville, Ga./ Gwinnett Gymnastics Center) won the vault with a score 9.575. Lexie Hein (Appleton, Wis./ LaFleur's Gymnastics) scored a career-high 38.175 in her second place finish in the all-around.
The Flames (1-4) defeated Big Ten opponent Iowa on the road last weekend, 191.125-190.325. Last season they finished ranked 34th in the country and fourth in the region ahead of teams like Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Their meet with Southeast is the second leg of their five-meet road trip to start the season. Against Iowa the Flames scored a season-high 191.125 despite the meet being pushed back a day due to inclement weather. They are led by Jackie Jaworowicz who won the all-around title vs. Iowa and Jennifer O'Neil. Last season Southeast lost 194.325-191.700 in Chicago. Southeast could only manage a win in the beams. Bloom won the individual title on the bars with a 9.800 for the lone individual winner. Southeast leads the all-time series in duals against the Flames, 24-13. However they look to snap their five-dual losing streak to their conference rivals. Southeast last defeated the Flames during the 1999 season. |
