Gymnastics Team Begin Three Meet Road Trip
Feb. 4, 2005 CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Friday, February 04, 2005) The Redhawks gymnastics team begins their long three-meet road trip tomorrow when they travel to the Lone Star State to face Texas Women's University in a conference dual meet in Denton, Texas at 7:00 P.M. The meet will be held in Kitty Magee Arena. The Redhawks (2-1, 2-1 MIC) are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season against Illinois-Chicago last weekend at home, 192.575-192.275. The loss snapped the Redhawks five-dual winning streak and their eight-dual home winning streak. Despite the loss Southeast recorded a season-high score of 192.275 and recorded many top individual performances. Tara Boldt (Lakeville, Minn./ T.A.G.S) tied for the all-around title, her second-straight meet she had won or tied for the title. Mindi Lineweber (Lincoln, Neb./ N.S.G.) won the bars with a season-high 9.725. Alexis Traylor (St. Charles, Mo./ All American) won the floor routine with a season-best 9.800.
Texas Women's Univeristy (0-2) begins their second season competing in the Midwest Independent Conference. The Division II powerhouse compiled a record of 3-24 in duals last season but still went on to finish second at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships. Winners of seven USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships, the Pioneers finished ranked 56th in the NCAA last season. The Pioneers return 13 letterwinners from a year ago including five USA Gymnastics All-Americans. Vaulter Jessica Brozovich is the most decorated of the All-Americans with consecutive All-American finishes for the Pioneers. They started the season at home with a tough 193.600-188.650 loss to 3rd-ranked Oklahoma. Lauren Kondikoff finished second on the beam with a score of 9.550 and Brozovich finished third on the vault with a score of 9.800. Next they traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado to face the Air Force Academy where they suffered another loss, 188.925-186.150 as they were victims of repetitive falls. The Redhawks lead the all-time series against the Pioneers with a 30-6 record. |
