Southeast Gymnastics Are Set To Take On The Fighting Illini

Feb. 6, 2003

Cape Girardeau, Mo. (February 6 , 2003)- The Southeast Missouri State University gymnastics squad (5-4), hosts the 40th ranked Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois. The Otahkians are looking to bounce back this Saturday after a loss to the 27th ranked Flames of Illinois-Chicago. The meet is set for 1 p.m. at Houck Field House.

Southeast is currently ranked 49th in the nation with a total season average of 191.506. The Otahkians are ranked tenth in the 12 team South Central Region. The Fighting Illini are not far ahead with a ranking of eighth.

"I'm looking forward to hosting a Big Ten school," said Southeast head coach Patty Stotzheim. "Illinois is doing well this year and I hope we draw a big crowd for this exciting competition."

A handful of the Otahkian gymnasts have been plagued with illness the past couple weeks, which has prevented a peak performance. "Considering the obstacles and distractions we dealt with last week, I'm pleased with how the team managed," said Stotzheim.

Last week versus UIC, Otahkian Freshman Deanna Ogg performed her Yurchenko tuck full on the vault. "...She nailed it," Said Stotzheim. "We still have a few more tricks in our bag that will come out before the end of the season."
