Cape Girardeau, Mo. (February 28, 2002) - The Southeast Missouri State Gymnastics team will look to continue upon the success they have had at home this season as they play host to Ball State University and Illinois State University Friday night at Houk Field House at 7 p.m..

The Otahks are coming off a hard-fought win against Texas Woman's University. Southeast was down by two points going into the final event, but used a strong floor exercise to pull out the win by a margin of a point and a half. They were led by senior Michelle Walker who captured two individual titles on the beam and floor, as junior Amy Cole won her first all-around competition this season. The two individual titles move Walker's total up to five on the season. Sophomore Ashley Godwin still leads that category with 10 titles.

Ball State, ranked 29th in the latest GymInfo National Poll, continues a seven-weekend road trek Friday when they travel to Cape. The Cardinals are 11-8 overall after a third-place finish at last weekend's Michigan State Spartan Invitational. The event was won by the host team with 195.700, followed by Illinois-Chicago with 194.875, BSU with 193.275 and New Hampshire with 193.100. The Cardinals are 3-2 in Mid-American Conference action.

The Redbirds are returning from a two week break from competition. They currently hold a 6-3 overall record and are No. 8 in the South Central region. After they finish this meet, they will be competing in a quadrangular meet against No.19 Missouri, No. 14 Denver, and Utah State.

Southeast will next be in action as they travel to Champaign, Illinois to take on the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois in a dual. The meet is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
