March 5, 2009
Story by Matthew C. Worthington, Gymnastics Contact CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The No. 33 Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team travels to Shreveport, La. as they face conference foe Centenary College. The meet will take place in the Gold Dome at 7p.m. (CT). Redhawks… Southeast (8-3, 6-0 MIC) fell to the Kent State Golden Eagles last week 194.075-196.025. Despite the loss, the Redhawks improved their Regional Qualifying Score by almost .5 points (from 193.800 to 194.270). The Redhawks are currently undefeated in conference play and are looking to repeat their home-win over Centenary earlier this season. Scouting the Ladies… The Centenary Ladies have only won three meets this season, but are working hard to put together some big scores in hopes of a NCAA regional berth. The Ladies last win came against Air Force and have since then lost two-straight to Texas Woman’s and Kentucky. Courtney Hawkins has been impressive for Centenary this season. She boasts a high-score of 9.85 on the vault and a 9.8 on the floor exercise. Farden’s thoughts… “We had a very productive week of training,” head coach Tom Farden said. “The team is looking forward to a good trip down south”. Next week… The Redhawks return to Houck Field House on March 14 as they host their last home-meet of the season against Air Force. The meet has a start time of 7p.m. |
