Redhawks Look For Strong Finish In Regular Season

March 15, 2007

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - (Thursday, March 15, 2007) The Redhawks gymnastics squad will be heading to Shreveport, La. on Saturday, March 17 to face the Centenary Ladies at 4:00p.m.

Southeast (13-5, 7-1 MIC) is finishing up the regular season and gearing up for post-season play. The meet with Centenary marks their second-to-last competition in the regular season. The Redhawks have the opportunity to erase some of their low scores recorded earlier in the season as they continue their strong end-of-season play.

The Redhawks were led in a 192.400-190.600 win against Illinois State last weekend by freshman Bryanna Wong (Parkville, Mo./Edge Gymnastics). Wong captured her first career all-around title and won the individual title on bars with a career-high 9.775.

Freshman Rikara Turner (Hastings, Minn./Twin City Twisters) and sophomore Maureen Grimaldi (Kansas City, Mo./Eagle Gymnastics) also turned in some good routines for Southeast. Turner finished third on the floor (9.700) and second on the vault (9.625)and all-around(37.975). Grimaldi tallied a 9.700 on the floor and 9.750 vault, while Turner finished third on the floor (9.700) and second on the vault (9.625)and all-around(37.975).

The Centenary Ladies are looking for a good showing as well after losing to the University of Illinois-Chicago twice this weekend.

Two Ladies looking to give Southeast trouble are senior Kristina Menne and freshman up-and-comer Courtney Hawkins. Menne finished second in the all-around this weekend with a score of 38.750 and scored a 9.725 on floor, finishing in second place. She also finished tied for third on bars with a score of 9.725. Hawkins tied for first on vault with a score of 9.750 against UIC earning her first individual title of her career, and finished second on floor with a 9.825.
