Redhawks Gymnast Kelley Krengiel Named NASPE Major of the Year

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Junior gymnast Kelley Krengiel has been named the National Association for Sport and Physical Education Major of the Year at Southeast Missouri State University.

The association honors exemplary students majoring in physical education, sport management, athletic training, and the sub-disciplines of kinesiology from across the country.

Krengiel, a three-year member of the Southeast gymnastics team, is currently majoring in Health Management with an Exercise Science option and a minor in Nutrition. She currently carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Krengiel performs her bar routine against Illinois-Chicago


Krengiel is an uneven bars specialist and won her first individual title this season with an impressive score of 9.800 against Illinois State.

This season, the Redhawks won the 2009 Midwest Independent Conference Championship and were a perfect 11-0 in conference meets. Overall, the team was 14-3 and sent four gymnasts to the NCAA Regional as individual competitors.
