Gymnastics Signs Three for Upcoming Season

May 1, 2003

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast head gymnastics coach Patty Stotzheim has filled out her 2003-04 roster with three incoming freshmen. The newcomers to the squad are Lily Le, Lexie Hein, and Brystol Powelski.

Le, a native of Kennewick, Wash. is anticipated to be a strong all-arounder with bars as her strongest event. Le was an athlete with Mid-Columbia Gymnastics and a five time JO National Qualifier. UI-Chicago, Alaska, and Townsend also recruited her. Le has competed some very big skills that will help Southeast continue to improve and push for a Regional berth in 2004.

Hein hails from Appleton, Wis. She was a member of La Fleur's Gymnastics Club. She is a four-year Level 10, National Qualifier. Hail was also recruited by Western Michigan and Centenary College. Hein's strong events will be vault and floor, but she could very well be a consistent all-arounder. Her outstanding academics earned her the University Scholarship.

Powelski is a graduate from Hales Corners, Wis. She competed with Salto's Gymnastics Club, with former teammate Anna Fink. She is a six-time JO National Qualifier. She was also recruited by Northern Illinois and Alaska. Powelski has an amazing vault that will kick-start the new and improved vault line-up for Southeast. Brystol's academic achievements earned her the Regent's Scholarship.

"I'm very excited about our three recruits," said Stotzheim. "These young ladies have got it all - great gymnastics, great academics, and great work ethic. They are going to be wonderful additions to the team and they're going to fit right in. These ladies were so pleasant in our conversations and during the visits. I have a lot of confidence that they will all experience fantastic college careers."
