Emma Garrett's Redhawk Chalk 2011 Season Wrap-up
May 16, 2011
We have officially made it to the end of the year! Things are finally beginning to wind down as Final’s Week is approaching. To recap, it’s been a great year for the Redhawks!
On a high note, we regained our title as MIC Champions! There were also many gymnasts who gained new career-high scores.
I had a career high score on vault with a 9.8. Erica Moore scored a 9.675 on bars, and Christa Soekamto scored a 9.725 on bars. Brianna Gaddie scored a 9.9 twice on vault this season, which places her 5th in the school record books on vault and got a career high of a 9.825 on beam. Sarah Brillhart scored a few career highs of 9.75 on bars, 9.875 on beam, and 9.775 on floor. Margaret O’Neal scored a 9.85 on vault, 9.875 on bars, and a 9.8 on floor. Taylor Westrick scored a career high of a 9.65 on vault, 9.875 on beam, 9.85 on floor, and a 39.1 in the all around. Christina Sundgren scored a 9.9 on bars, which ties her for 3rd in the school record books. Sundgren also scored a 9.8 on beam, a 9.825 on floor, and a 39.85 in the all around.
On top of all these individual career highs, we also had some team bests!
On vault we scored a 48.925 which ranks 2nd in school history. On beam we scored 48.95 which ranks 7th in school history, and a 49.025 that ranks 4th in school history.
Our highest team score of the year was 195.075 against Texas Women’s University which ranks 9th in school history!
Even though we as a team did not make it to Regionals, we had three ladies who qualified and represented our team in Oklahoma: Taylor Westrick as an all arounder, Brianna Gaddie on vault, and Christina Sundgren on bars.
Just this past week we had our Athletic Banquet and Team Banquet. The athletic banquet was a lot of fun and we enjoyed getting dressed up. Last Wednesday was our Team Banquet.
This year we had a potluck theme. Starting with the seniors, each athlete randomly drew another team members name and then drew a dish. You and your partner had to make whatever dish you drew from scratch.
Although we were all a little concerned about our cooking abilities, all the food tasted awesome. It was a night filled with a lot fun and laughter!
While this has been a great year filled with many successes and a lot of fun memories, it’s also getting to that time where we have to say our goodbyes to the graduating seniors.
This year we’re saying goodbye to Senior Brianna Gaddie, Christina Sundgren, Erica Moore, and Redshirt Senior Jacqueline Heath. All four or these ladies contributed to our team in a variety of ways and will be greatly missed!
