Five Gymnasts Tabbed Academic All-American

Sept. 10, 2004

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. -

The 2004 Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team was honored by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) as an Academic All-American Team and five gymnasts were named 2004 Academic All-Americans. Departing senior Jacklyn Doebbler, juniors Kelly Baldridge and Tara Boldt, sophomores Brystol Powelski and Lexie Hein were named individual Academic All-Americans for their accomplishments in the classroom during the 2004 gymnastics season.

The five gymnasts contributed to a team cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.129 and the team honors. This marks the 2nd time in three years they have received the team honor.

Powelski had a team-high 3.75 GPA followed by Baldridge (3.73), Doebbler (3.70), Hein (3.70) and Boldt (3.60). For Baldridge this is her second time being named an Academic All-American after garnering the honor during the 2003 season.

"I'm extremely pleased that we have been able to have five extremely gifted athletes excel in the classroom," said gymnastics head coach Tom Farden. "It's a testament to their character that they not only strive for the best in their selves in the gym, but also in the classroom."

Last season Southeast had five Academic All-Americans.
