Southeast Gymnastics coach will be inducted her Alma Mater Athletic Hall of Fame

Sept. 20, 2002

Cape Girardeau - Southeast gymnastics' coach Patty Stotzheim will be inducted into Hamline University's Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday. Before she graduated from Hamline University in 1991, she was an outstanding athlete on both the gymnastics and softball teams. She also served as coach for the gymnastics team after graduation.

"I am quite honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. I'm so proud of being a Hamline alumnus and so grateful to have worked with such talented athletes during my years as a coach," said Stotzheim.

After spending her first collegiate year at Winona State University. Stotzheim lettered in softball for the 1988-89 and 1989-90 season as a utility player at Hamline University. She also lettered as an all-arounder for the Piper gymnastics team in 1989, 1990, and 1991. The gymnastics team qualified for Nationals every year Stotzheim was a member and she served as captain of the gymnastics team her last two years. She also was an Academic All-American, winner of the Cloon Award and the Piper Dedication Award in 1991.

Stotzheim returned to Hamline's gymnastics program as an assistant coach from 1994-95 and as head coach from 1995-99. She coached 25 NCGA All-Americans, one NCGA Outstanding Senior Athlete, and a National Champion on the floor exercise. The team qualified to Nationals and finished in the top four every year. While a coach the team broke all but one of Hamline's individual event records. Stotzheim also held positions with the NCGA, the Women's Collegiate Program Committee, and the MN USA Gymnastics Board.

"I've learned a great deal from the outstanding people who have been a part of Hamline athletics. I wish I could name them all, but there are too many to list here. My appreciation for them is sincere and I feel that this honor is merely a reflection of all the hard work by those who came before me and those who worked with me," said Stotzheim. "It's a great day to be a Piper!"

Currently, Stotzheim is the head coach for the Southeast Missouri State Gymnastics Team. She has had four individual gymnasts qualify to NCAA Regional Competition. The team has placed in the top 15 in the nation for academics along with breaking four Southeast event records. She will be serving her first year on the NCAA Rgional Advising Committee.

Along with Stotzheim other inductees include Rich Jacobson class of '77 for football, basketball, and track & field; Lester Glenna class of '91 also for football; Sam Ocel class of '82 for football and track & field; Del Sachwitz class of '73 (posthumous) for football and baseball.
