Oct. 1, 2010

Sept. 13-18
We have finally started official practices! I can already tell it’s going to be a great year! We have a great freshman class with a lot of potential, and the returners came back with even more to offer this season!

To start off our first week of official practices, the coaches planned out a scavenger hunt and split us into smaller groups. With four clues and different destinations all across campus, we went out and had a blast together!

This week was our “hard week.” Our morning workouts tested our stamina and perseverance, and the practices kept us on our toes. The conditioning was tough, but our team pulled together and finished the week off very well with a sprint workout on Saturday.

I think we are all finally getting back into the swing of things with morning workouts, classes and practice. Next week is “easy week” on our final week of the first four-week cycle meaning no morning workouts! I think I can speak for the whole team and say we’re all pretty excited for those extra couple hours of sleep!

Sept. 19-25
This week flew by! We completed our second week of official practices, what we call “easy week.”

Because we didn’t have the extra morning workouts, we  were able to catch up on some sleep while still having great productive days in the gym! This week we started putting bar connections together while at the same time working on our consistency and form. Also, we started flipping our competition vaults into free foam.

I can already tell we’re going to have a great vault lineup! We have a couple different and new vaults and are hoping to add some variety for the judges. Floor choreography also began this week for some of the girls, and beam is continuing to come along great!

Family weekend is here, and it was fun having some of the parents in the gym watching our practice Friday afternoon to end the week on a great note.

Our team is coming together and for only our second week of official practices, we are looking great! GO REDHAWKS!!
