Nov. 7 - 13
We started off our "hard week" with a top-8 intrasquad on each event Monday afternoon at practice. Overall we did very well as a team!

The coaches were very pleased and said we’re right where we need to be for where we are in preseason. It was a great start to the week! We finished off the rest of the week with the same determination!

On beam, we worked a lot on putting ourselves in pressure situations to feel more like we would during a meet. It is starting to pay of, and it’s great to see the result.

On floor, Junior Christa Soekamto and Freshman Megan Fosnow got their floor routine choreographed. We also started full floor sets, and the floor lineup is looking strong!

On the Bars, we continued to work on handstands while putting full routines together. Our bars are looking cleaner each week! Coach Stokley is also putting new connections together for some of the girls to add difficulty to the routines to up our start values. Everyone is really excited about the changes!

Vault is continuing to be one of our strongest events. Our vaulters are looking more confident by the day and I know we’re going to have a studly vault lineup by season!

We finished out the week on Saturday morning with a spring workout. We did quarter mile repeats, which is a quarter mile sprint around the outside track. We did this twice. This is our hardest sprint workout of preseason and it was a great positive finish to hard week!

Over the weekend we participated in Operation Christmas Child. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it’s an outreach opportunity through our church. We all made boxes for children that are less fortunate than us.

The idea is to fill the box up with little items toys, coloring books and crayons, candies, hairbrushes, toy cars, etc. Then, we wrap them up in pretty Christmas wrapping paper, put an age range on the outside of the box and take them to our church. These are then shipped off to another country and it gives a little boy or girl something special to open on Christmas. We had a great time shopping and putting them all together. Check out our website for some pictures of this event!

GET TO KNOW A REDHAWK
The spotlight this week is on our final freshman, Erin Brady. She comes to us from Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Erin’s favorite event is floor because she loves tumbling.

She started gymnastics when she was three years old and her favorite SEMO memory is the scavenger hunt the coaches put together for us at the beginning of the year.

Her reason for coming to SEMO was, “SEMO has great academics, athletics, and an awesome gymnastics team!”

Erin is a great addition to the team. Even though she’s injured, she’s always in the gym with a smile on her face ready to help wherever she can. I know as soon as she’s healthy she’s going to be a great addition in our lineups!

This next week is our last full week of practice before the Thanksgiving holiday, with a Thanksgiving Intrasquad this upcoming Friday, November 19th.

GO REDHAWKS!

Emma
