Dec. 20, 2010

Dec. 12 - 18
We are officially through the final week of first semester!

This week was a stressful week for the team both in and out of the gym. It was week four, or easy week, so we didn’t have morning workouts. But, the practice schedule was a little different due to finals week.

We had the choice of coming to either a morning or afternoon practice, depending on when our finals were. This gave us all more flexibility with our finals schedule and studying. We had a bulk assignment and were given Monday and Tuesday to complete it in whatever order we wished.

Wednesday was our team Christmas Party. As always, we had a great time and had awesome catered food from Outback Steakhouse. Instead of drawing names for the gift exchange like we always do, this year Kristi came up with the idea to play Dirty Santa instead.

This is where everyone draws a number and in number order you pick a present from the table. After the first person opens their present, the second person is allowed to “steal” that present, or open a different gift, and so on. It got to be quite competitive and people were stealing presents left and right.

In the end, I think everyone was happy with the gift they ended up with!

Thursday was our Preseason Challenge. Overall we did very well as a team. We came out and finished off first semester with a bang!

We had a decent size crowd for it being the last day of finals and were excited to be able to show our routines to not only a crowd, but a real judge. Senior Brianna Gaddie won vault with a 9.60. Senior Christina Sundgren won bars with a 9.70. Sophomore Sarah Brillhart and senior Christina Sundgren tied for first on beam with a 9.80, and Senior Brianna Gaddie won floor with a 9.80. In the all around competition, senior Christina Sundgren took the honors with a 38.60.

GET TO KNOW A REDHAWK
The final sophomore in the spotlight is me, Emma Garrett. I am from Jacksonville, Florida.

I came to SEMO because I loved the campus, loved the team, loved the stress on academics and loved that it was close to some of my family.

My favorite events are floor and vault, and those are the only ones I’m allowed to practice due to a shoulder injury.

My favorite food is fruit, and my all time favorite dessert is cookie cake!

My most embarrassing moment since I’ve been at SEMO was probably when we went to Dairy Queen as a team October of freshman year at I slipped on water and fell flat on my back right in front of tons of people… talk about embarrassing!

The Gymhawks have the next 10 days off for winter break and will pick back up on Monday December 27th! Until next time...

GO REDHAWKS & MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Emma
