Soccer Captures 1-0 Win At Missouri-St. Louis
Aug. 17, 2007 ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer kicked off its exhibition schedule tonight with a thrilling 1-0 victory at Missouri-St. Louis in the team's first exhibition contest since the 2005 season. The Redhawks established big advantages over the host Riverwomen in shot attempts (14-4) and corner kicks (6-1) for the match. In her first match since the end of the 2005 campaign, redshirt senior midfielder Molli Beard (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) scored the match's only goal in the 34 th minute after receiving a pass from sophomore forward Lauren Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) in the 18-yard box. Freshman forward Ashley Runion (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) led Southeast with five shot attempts, including two shots on goal, while sophomore forward Courtney Alexander (Liberty, MO/Liberty) added three shot attempts. Senior Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) and sophomore Rachel Harrington (Vancouver, WA/Skyway) combined for the shutout in goal with each playing a half. UMSL was led offensively by junior Rachel Lee's two shot attempts and junior Courtney Carmody tallied a match-best four saves in between the pipes. The Redhawks continue their weekend schedule tomorrow night against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at SIUE's Korte Stadium beginning at 7 p.m. |
