Redhawks Shutout Tritons 2-0 in Final Exhibition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (Sunday, August 17, 2008) - The Redhawks soccer team completed a successful exhibition season with a 2-0 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Sunday evening at Houck Stadium. The Redhawks went a perfect 3-0 during their exhibition season, outscoring their opponents 12-2. The Redhawks showed aggressiveness right from the get-go especially the offensive end as they had many looks and shots on goal early on. Casey Kraft had a chance, as her 18-yard shot fell into the hands of Tritons goalie Mary Behrmann. At the 13:37 mark the Redhawks finally cracked the scoreboard. Kraft found Ashley Runion with a cross that Runion promptly in the back of the net for her fourth goal of the preseason. For Kraft it was her second assist and her eighth point of the preseason. The Redhawks went into the lockerroom with a 1-0 lead and the lead in shots (6-3) and chances on goal. The second period featured much of the same as the Redhawks continued to attack the Tritons defense. At the 72:45 mark the Redhawks lined up for a corner kick situation. Senior Nicole Bussman lofted a perfect corner into the goalie box that junior defender Stephanie Kulavic headed into the left bottom corner for her first goal of the preseason. It was Bussman's second assist of a corner kick in as many games. It was an easy night in goal for the Redhawks keepers as they faced only four shots on the night with Jessica Beckham making the only save of the game for the Redhawks. Rachel Harrington was credited with the win after making her third-straight start in the net. Kraft led the team with six shots and three shot on goal. Bussman had three shots. Danielle Dahm led the Tritons with one shot on goal. Behrmann allowed one goal while making three saves. The Redhawks outshot the Tritons 14-4 for the game including 8-1 in the second period. Up next for the Redhawks is their season opener against rival Saint Louis this Friday, August 22. Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m. at Houck Stadium. |
