CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Ashley Runion scored the game-winning goal tonight off a corner kick from Nikki Edwards in the second overtime period to give Southeast its first win of the regular season. The assist was Edwards' first of her career, while Runion scored her 13th overall.

The Redhawks consistently had shots on goal tonight as they took a total of 13 from the field. They just couldn't get any of them to go in the goal until the overtime periods. Vanessa Hart led the team with five shots followed by Runion, who had four, all of which were on goal.

Indiana State had about half as many shots, but weren't on target nearly as much as they only had two on goal. Casey Allbright kept pressure on goalie Kaitlyn Smugala, but Smugala was able to snag everything that came her way. ISU's goalkeeper Emily Lahay made six saves in the first 100 minutes of the game before giving up the goal off the corner kick in the second overtime period.

The goal that ended the game came in the 104th minute of the match when Nikki Edwards took a corner kick in the second overtime. The Redhawks knew they had to take advantage of this opportunity as time was running short. As the ball came flying into the box, Ashley Runion was in perfect position for the header to put the ball past the goalie. Lahay dove to the right, but wasn't fast enough as the Redhawks won their first game of the year.

Southeast returns to action on Sunday against the Evansville Purple Aces. Kick-off is set for 6 p.m. at Houck Stadium.
