The Southeast soccer team closed the exhibition season on Friday in a scoreless tie with SLU.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Otahkians closed their 2001 exhibition portion of the schedule by playing to a scoreless tie with the powerful Saint Louis Billikens on Friday night.

The contest, the first of the season for SLU, witnessed both teams attacking and getting good scoring opportunities, but neither team was able to find the back of the net. Both teams managed five shots, with Otahkian goalie Beth Guccione making four saves for Southeast. Preseason Conference USA Player of the Year, Meghann Burke stopped three Otahkian shots.

Southeast will take to the field next weekend in the first regular season contest of the season. The first annual Southeast Tournament will be held at Houck Stadium with Southeast facing off against Belmont at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31. Immediately proceeding that game will be the Ball State - Jacksonville State matchup. Southeast will conclude the tournament by facing Jacksonville State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
