Southeast Tops Arkansas 3-2 In Soccer Opener

Cape Girardeau, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State University women's soccer team opened the season with a 3-2 win over Arkansas of the Southeastern Conference.

Diana Poovey scored the first goal of the season when she connected on a direct shot from 12 yards with an assist from Marla Gianino. Arkansas tied the score 1-1 late in the first half but Southeast regained the lead early in the second half on Megan Hejlek's 35-yard direct free kick at 59:50.

Arkansas again tied the score at 2-2 but Lisa Schweppe got the game winner at 67:23 with assists from Erin Slattery and Michelle Frossard.

Southeast, 1-0, will host Evansville on Sunday. The Purple Aces are 0-1 after losing to Eastern Illinois, 2-0, on Friday afternoon.
