CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team escaped the first half rains and a cold start to shutout Arkansas-Little Rock and 3-0 Friday afternoon at Houck Stadium.

Right after the start of the game, the sky opened up and it rained for almost two-thirds of the first half. During this time the previously hot Southeast (3-0) offensive attack could not find the net and Arkansas-Little Rock (0-4) stayed tight. After the rains stopped, sophomore Erika Todd found the net on a breakaway for her second goal of the season to put the Otahkians up 1-0.

Although that was the only first half scoring, Southeast dominated the offensive play, as they managed to keep the ball in their zone most of the half.

Reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Erin Slattery scored her third goal of the season in the 64th minute to push the lead to 2-0 and senior Nichole Thiele capped the scoring with her third goal of the season in the 84th minute. Thiele has now scored in five consecutive games, dating back to last season.

The victory was Southeast's sixth in a row at Houck Stadium, also dating back to last season. The 3-0 start is the quickest in the three-year program's history.

For the game, Southeast outshot UALR 14-4, including holding them without a shot in the second period. Southeast also won the battle on corner kicks, attempting 11 to UALR's zero. Senior goalkeeper Beth Guccione made two saves in recording her third shutout victory of the season.

Southeast will be back in action on Sunday when Central Arkansas visits Houck Stadium. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
