Drury Scores Two Goals in Final Ten Minutes to Defeat Southeast 2-1 Drury comes up big late to win first game of season and knock Otahkians to 2-1-1 overall.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (September 8, 2000) - The Drury University Panthers (1-4-1) scored two goals in the final ten minutes of regulation to defeat Southeast Missouri State (2-1-1) 2-1 in Houck Stadium on Friday night. Southeast took an early lead when Nichole Thiele (Sr., Cape Girardeau, Mo.) scored her fifth goal of the season off a Valerie Henderson assist to put the Otahkians up 1-0 in the 32nd minute. Southeast cruised the rest of the half as goaltender Tami Hebert (Sr., O'Fallon, Mo.) made five saves of 11 overall Drury shots. The game appeared to be Southeast's for the taking as the Otahkians led 1-0 with less than six minutes to play. That is when Adrienne Madison put Drury on the board with a breakaway goal to tie the score at 1-1. Less than two minutes later, Drury's Meghan Kelly's shot deflected off a Southeast defender and found the back on the net to give Drury its first lead of the night and the eventual victory. Overall, Drury outshot Southeast 19-15. Hebert saved seven shots for Southeast while Drury goaltender Sarah Reichert saved six for the Panthers. Southeast's next game is Monday, September 11th at 4 p.m. versus Arkansas State in State University, Arkansas. |
