Lacopo Scores Twice In Redhawks' 4-1 Win Over DePaul

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Senior forward Alaina Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) scored two goals as Southeast Missouri State claimed a 4-1 non-conference victory over DePaul this afternoon at Houck Stadium. The Redhawks improved their season record to 2-1 with the win while the Blue Demons fell to 2-3 on the year.

DePaul took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute when sophomore Shannon Williams scored a breakaway goal from 20 yard after receiving a pass from freshman Callie Hemming near midfield. The Redhawks regrouped in the 36th minute to tie the score at 1-1 after freshman forward Ashley Runion (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) knocked in her second goal of the season off a rebound from a broken play from the 18-yard box.

In the second half, Lacopo scored her first goal of the day in the 56th minute off a pass from the left side by sophomore forward Courtney Alexander (Liberty, MO/Liberty) to give the home team a 2-1 advantage. Also assisting on the goal was junior defender Megan McGrath (Hawthorn Woods, IL/Carmel). Lacopo struck again in the 76th minute off assists from Alexander and Runion that increased Southeast's leading margin at 3-1. Sophomore forward Lauren Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) closed the scoring in the 84th minute with a goal off a bending shot past Blue Demon goalkeeper Brittni Lally.

The Redhawks held a 20-13 margin in shot attempts and a slim 8-7 corner kick advantage. Alexander finished with two assists and a match-best six shot attempts, while sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Harrington (Vancouver, WA/Skyway) tallied a career-best four saves and earned her first collegiate victory. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) recorded a save in the first half.

DePaul was led by Williams with four shot attempts, including three on goal. Lally recorded a match-high six saves with four coming in the first half and freshman Tara Strickland tallied three shot attempts.

Southeast heads to Indiana on Tuesday, Sept. 11 for a non-conference contest at Evansville beginning at 6 p.m.
