Sept. 16, 2006

Box Score

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State soccer set numerous school and Ohio Valley Conference single-game records as it defeated visiting Arkansas-Pine Bluff by a score of 12-0 tonight at Houck Stadium. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 3-3 on the year, while UAPB's record drops to 0-6. Southeast eclipsed the OVC record of 11 goals, which was set by Murray State yesterday against the Golden Lions, assists (14) and points (38). Last season, the Redhawks tallied a then-school record 11 goals in a road win at UAPB.

The scoring began with a goal by freshman Courtney Alexander (Liberty, MO/Liberty) at the 2:14 mark with assists going to sophomore Nicole Bussman (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap) and junior Megan Matter (Florissant, MO/Hazelwood West). The Redhawks did not score again until the 22 nd minute when junior Margie Schaeffler (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word) scored off a corner kick pass from freshman Cassie Brown (Port Orchard, WA/South Kitsap). Sophomore Megan McGrath tallied goals in the 35th and 44th minutes, while freshman Rachel Harrington (Vancouver, WA/Skyway) scored in 36th minute to send Southeast into intermission with a 5-0 lead.

In the second half, junior Blair Schuppan (St. Louis, MO/Nerinx Hall) took over as she recorded her first career hat trick with scores in the 47th, 53rd and 54th minutes. Scoring in the final goals were Bussman, Alexander, junior Alaina Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad) and Brown.

Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) recorded her third shutout of the season. Goalkeeper Trina Fletcher was the lone bright spot for the Golden Lions as she tallied a match-best 15 saves. Southeast's defensive unit managed to hold UAPB to zero shot attempts, tying its school-record mark for fewest shots allowed set last season against the Golden Lions.

The Redhawks hit the road this Monday (Sept. 18) for a non-conference showdown against No. 28 Saint Louis at SLU's Hermann Stadium. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
