Soccer Defeats Air Force, 2-0, At Toys for Tots Tournament

Sept. 16, 2007

Box Score

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Freshman midfielder Vanessa Hart (Dubbo, NSW Australia/Dubbo SC) tallied a goal and an assists as Southeast Missouri State soccer concluded the Saint Louis Toys for Tots Tournament with a 2-0 shutout victory over Air Force today at SLU's Robert R. Hermann Stadium. The Redhawks improved to 3-2-1 with the win, while the Falcons dropped to 1-3-2 on the year.

Hart gave Southeast a 1-0 advantage in the fourth minute with an unassisted goal off a failed clearance of the ball by Air Force just 15 yards from the goal. The Redhawks held a commanding 9-2 shooting advantage over the Falcons heading into halftime. The score stayed the same through the second half until Hart assisted on sophomore forward Courtney Alexander's (Liberty, MO/Liberty) far post goal in the 90th minute for an insurance tally.

The Redhawks finished the match with a 15-9 margin in shot attempts and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Alexander and Hart tallied four shots apiece for Southeast, while senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) posted her second shutout win of the season with four saves and moved closer to towards the Ohio Valley Conference career record with her 22nd career shutout. Alexander, Hart and freshman forward Ashley Runion (St. Peters, MO/Ft. Zumwalt South) were named to the all-tournament team.

Air Force were led by juniors Corbin Sanford and Roni Yadlin with two shot attempts, respectively, and junior Erin Wallace recorded a save in goal.

Southeast is idle from competition next week before opening Ohio Valley Conference play at Morehead State in a rematch from last year's OVC Tournament final on Sept 28 with a start time of 6 p.m.
