Todd Records Three Goals and Sets School Record in 3-2 Defeat of Western Illinois Erika Todd breaks Otahkian single season goals record and team ties win total from a season ago.
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (September 17, 2000) - Freshman forward Erika Todd (Granite City, Ill.) scored a hat trick and broke the school record for goals in a season for the Southeast Missouri State soccer team as the Otahkians defeated Western Illinois 3-2 in overtime on Sunday. The Otahkians (4-1-1) got on the board early as Todd scored two goals within three minutes of each other to give Southeast the 2-0 advantage. The Westerwinds (1-5) would not quit, however, as they added goals by Lynn Peterson and Jenny Beckman within two minutes of each other to even the score at the half. The second half was scoreless and Southeast entered its second overtime session of the season. Nine minutes into overtime Todd found the back of the net to give the Otahkians the 3-2 victory. The goal was the eighth of the year by Todd, eclipsing the record set by Nichole Thiele (Sr., Cape Girardeau, Mo.) in Southeast's inaugural season of soccer in 1999. Southeast's next game is Friday, September 22, against in-state rival Southwest Missouri State at 7:00 p.m. in Houck Stadium. |
