CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. (September 22, 2000) - The Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears (4-7) shutout the Southeast Missouri State Otahkians 3-0 at Houck Stadium on Friday night.

Southeast (4-2-1), Division I's 10th highest scoring team, failed to put any points on the board despite some good scoring chances. Nichole Thiele (Sr., Cape Girardeau, Mo.), Jen Cross (Fr., Wildwood, Mo.) and Valerie Henderson (Fr., Florissant, Mo.) each took four shots but never found the net.

Southwest got goals from Stacy Smolarczyk, April Lee, and Ann-Marie Russell. Smolarczyk scored 20 minutes into the game to put the Bears ahead for good. Second half goals by Lee and Russell padded the score and the Bears never looked back.

Most of the game was a defensive struggle as each team failed to get quality shots. Southeast's best chance of the game was ended on an Erika Todd (Fr., Granite City, Ill.) offsides call in the second period.

Southeast's next game is Friday, September 29th against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee at 7:00 p.m. -
