CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri State Soccer team got its lone goal from freshman Erin Slattery and played incredible defense the rest of the game to keep their season's record perfect.

Slattery scored at the 59:47 mark of the game with a header via a Katie Huesling assist off an Otahkian free kick. The textbook play was the only score of the day and Slattery's fourth goal of the season.

Southeast (6-0) and Creighton (3-3) battled tough in the first half as neither team really had a good chances to score. The best chance for either team was a Slattery header off a Marla Gianino corner kick, but CU goalie Jaimie Thompson made a great save. Thompson would also make a save off a hard struck Nichole Thiele shot, as both teams went to halftime scoreless.

After Southeast scored in the second frame, the defense kicked in and senior goalkeeper Beth Guccione had another outstanding game. Guccione only made two saves, but time and time again made great defensive plays to prevent scores. At one point in the second half Creighton got five corner kicks within a three-minute period, but Guccione was tough in-goal. The shutout was her ninth of her career, which set the Southeast all-time mark. Guccione has logged 540 minutes of scoreless soccer this season.

Thiele's school record streak of seven consecutive games without a goal came to an end today.

Southeast has won nine consecutive games at Houck Stadium, dating back to last season, all of which were shutouts. The team has also gone a school record 13 games without being shutout.

Southeast will be back in action next weekend at the Tulsa Adidas Classic. The Otahks will battle Tulsa on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. and Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
