Soccer Picks-up First OVC Victory

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -

The Southeast Missouri State women's soccer team defeated Austin Peay, 1-0 Sunday afternoon to get their first conference victory of the season. The win improved their record to 6-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Ohio Valley.

Senior Marla Gianino scored the only goal of the game in the second period after both teams played flawless defense in the first half.

The Otahkians managed seven shots in the first half and holding the Lady Govs to only one shot.

Gianino's goal off a rebound proved to be the game winner as Southeast only allowed three shots by Austin Peay in the second half.

The goal by Gianino was her first of the season and her 13th in her career. The goal resulted in her 47th and 48th points of her career, moving her third in the school's all-time points list.

Jessi Wuellner was credited with the assist, her first assist of the season.

Goalkeeper Amanda Wrzos recorded her fourth shut-out of the season and stopped two shots on goal. The win improved her record to 6-2.

Next for Southeast is their conference home opener against Morehead State on Sunday, October 3. Start time for the game is slated for 2:00 P.M. in Houck Stadium.
