Schaeffler Leads Southeast Past Murray State, 2-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Junior midfielder Margie Schaeffler (St. Louis, MO/Incarnate Word) recorded a goal and an assist as Southeast Missouri State soccer posted a 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference win over Murray State tonight at Houck Stadium. With the win, the Redhawks improve to 5-4 (2-0) on the year, while the Racers drop their season record to 3-5-2 (0-1-1).

After a scoreless first half, Southeast tallied its first score at the 55:14 mark in the second half after Schaeffler headed in a corner kick from three yards inf front of the goal off the foot of sophomore defender Megan McGrath (Hawthorn Woods, IL/Carmel) for a 1-0 lead. The Redhawks struck again two minutes later in the 57 th minute with a score from freshman midfielder Courtney Alexander (Liberty, MO/Liberty) with assists by Schaeffler and junior forward Alaina Lacopo (Troy, IL/Triad).

Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Pickering (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles West) tallied four saves to record her fifth shutout win of the season and her 16th career shutout, which ties her with former Redhawk standout Beth Guccione for first place in school annals.

The Redhawks travel this Friday to Charleston, Ill., for a key OVC contest at Eastern Illinois. The kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
