CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast soccer team was unable to break away from Austin Peay tonight, despite dominating the offensive end of the field by outshooting the Lady Govs, 29-6 in the double overtime tie. The tie marks both teams second of the year in Ohio Valley Conference play and is SEMO's second in a row following the 1-1 match last week against Eastern Illinois.

Southeast (5-4-2, 0-0-2 OVC) topped their season-high shot total from last week with two more shots tonight against Austin Peay (1-8-3, 0-1-2 OVC). Bobbi Jo Schlick and Ashley Runion led the Redhawks with nine shots apiece. Lady Gov goalkeeper Carley Newman was a brick wall though as she didn't let anything by while recording 17 saves in the match. Southeast goalie Kristen Starkey was just as impressive although she was only required to snag five saves because of the stellar defense in front of her.

The Lady Govs were held to only six shots throughout the match, all of which came in the first two periods of play as they were outshot 8-0 in extra time. The Redhawk defense kept them off their side of the field in both overtime periods, which gave SEMO's offense plenty of scoring opportunities.

With as many shots as Southeast had tonight, surprisingly they only had four opportunities from corner kicks, especially after having nine last week. Most of their shots were saved and held on by Newman though, which limited their second chance scoring opportunities.

The Redhawks will have a break from OVC play this Sunday as they compete in their annual Alumni Game. The current team will take on past Redhawk soccer players in a friendly match. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Houck Stadium.
